James Phillip Montgomery

James Phillip Montgomery, age 72, passed away in his home on January 5, 2019. Phil was born on July 15, 1946 in Kokomo, Indiana to the late James and Mary Jo (Pickering) Montgomery. After graduating from Kokomo High School, Phil received his undergraduate degree from Indiana University. He went on to earn his Doctor of Optometry from the IU school of Optometry and had his own practice in Kokomo for 38 years. He loved his work and creating so many great relationships/friendships with his patients over the years. Phil was a proud father and grandfather. He also had an amazing green thumb and when he wasn’t spending time in his garden, he enjoyed reading, golf and playing cards. He was also skilled at playing both the piano and the guitar. Phil is survived by his sons, Andrew (Lacey) Montgomery, and Scott Montgomery; sister, Shirley Olson; and grandchildren, Ella Kate Montgomery, Joshua Montgomery, Chase Montgomery, and Mason Montgomery-Lee. There will be a visitation for Phil held at Sunset Memory Garden Funeral Home on Tuesday, January 15th from 4-5:30 p.m, followed by a memorial service.
