

Jewel Dean Fife, 75, Kokomo, passed away on Sept. 16, 2015, at St. Vincent Hospital in Kokomo, surrounded by her loving daughter and son-in-law, Vonda and Jim Hughes. She was born on March 29, 1940, in Alabama, the daughter of Henry Colburn and Jewel T. (Johnson) Colburn.
Jewel retired from General Motors. She loved to travel, and her trips included voyages from New York to California, Hawaii, the country of Holland, all via motorcycle, cruise, or car. She loved it all. Jewel fought a very brave and courageous battle with breast cancer.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her daughter, Margo Fife in 1995, and her siblings, Robbie, Jesse, and Wanda. Jewel is survived by her daughters, Vonda Hughes (Jim), and Tresa Barnes (Tim); her grandsons, Joshua D. Smith, and Dr. Abrin Schmucker and his wife, Dr. Ashley Schmucker; her great-grandson, Braxton Downs; and numerous nieces and nephews.
The family wishes to thank the nurses and nursing aides at St. Vincent Hospital Kokomo for all of the loving care given to their Jewel and her family. A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Sunset Memory Garden Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family requests each family member or friend bring a single yellow rose. Memorial gifts may be made to the American Diabetes Association or Susan G. Komen for the Cure.
