John "J. D." Powell, 74, Kokomo, passed away August 27, 2015 at St. Vincent Hospital, Kokomo. He was born June 17, 1941 in Russiaville, the son of John D. Powell, Sr. and Regina (Grinslade) Powell. J. D. was a journeyman bookbinder and enjoyed watching NASCAR and woodworking.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, and two sisters. J. D. married his wife of 55 years,Joyce (Tate) Powell, on September 25, 1959, and she survives. He is also survived by his sons, Jeffery D. Powell (Darlene), Brian E. Powell (Mary), Gregory L. Powell (Kim), and Russell S. Powell (Faith); nine grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren; his sister, Lucy Horoho (Jim); and numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be on Monday, August 31 at 1 PM at Faith Tabernacle Church, 1300 S. Ohio Street, Kokomo, with visitation from 10 AM until service time at the church. Burial will be in Sunset Memory Garden Cemetery. Memorial gifts may be made to the American Heart Association.
