Lanita Sue Schmidt

Lanita Sue Schmidt, age 81, of Kokomo, Indiana passed away on Friday, December 9, 2022 at Indiana University Health Frankfort Hospital. She was born on December 6, 1941 in Kokomo to the late Lloyd and Marie (Collins) McCaffery. She was first married to Bill Johns, father of her only daughter, Carolin, she was then married to Chuck Smith for 17 years, and then most recently to George Schmidt, who all preceded her in death.

Lanita worked for Syndicate Sales for over 40 years before retiring. She enjoyed traveling and taking Sunday drives. She attended Faith Baptist Church for many years before she moved to Frankfort to be with her daughter.

She is survived by her daughter, Carolin (Randy) Hunter, of Frankfort; four grandchildren, Dawn (T.J.) Shuck, of Kokomo, Steven (Holly) Hunter, of Amboy, Alison Gasaway, of Cabot, AR, and Kaitlin (Tyler) Green, of Flora; 13 great-grandchildren; twin sister, Linda Sholty, of Kokomo; and brothers, Joe (Jean) VanHorn, of Noblesville; Darrell (Sue) VanHorn, of Rock Spring, GA; and several nieces and nephews.

Preceded in death by her parents; sister, Rita Hopson; great-granddaughter, Karli VanNess; niece, Michele Gifford; three nephews, Todd Fitzgerald, Tommy Hopson, and Eric VanHorn; and grandson-in-law, Bryan Gasaway.

There will be a time of visitation for Lanita on Tuesday, December 13, 2022, from 11:00 A.M. until the time of service at 1:00 P.M. at Ellers Mortuary Webster Chapel, 3400 South Webster Street, Kokomo. Pastor Eric Stovall will be officiating. Burial will follow to Albright Cemetery. Memorial contribution may be made in Lanita's memory to the Kokomo Humane Society.
