

Leon Burnett, 72, of Lady Lake, FL, formerly of Sharpsville, passed away at 7:19PM, Thursday, May 18, 2017 at Leesburg Regional Medical Center, Leesburg, FL. He was born February 14, 1945 in Saxton, Missouri to the late Lucian and Opal (Reynolds) Burnett. He married Edith (Shuck) Burnett on June 4, 1965 at Sharpsville United Methodist Church, and she survives.
Leon was owner and operator for Amoco Station and Burnett’s Service Center, both in Kokomo, for over 30 years. In his younger years, he was a musician and front man for the music group, Leon and the Playboys. He also enjoyed sports, especially golf. Leon was a past member of Town’s Council in Sharpsville, Elks Lodge in Tipton, and Sharpsville United Methodist Church.
Surviving are his loving wife of 51 years, Edith; sister, Linda Stiner; two special nieces, Melinda and Melissa; special nephew, Michael; and several other nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his two sons, Terry and Timothy Burnett; daughter, Tonia Burnett; and two brothers, Emmett and Rufes Burnett.
A funeral service will be at 10:00 AM Friday, May 26, 2017 at Ellers Mortuary Webster Chapel, 3400 South Webster Street, Kokomo with Rev. Mandie Elizabeth Gould officiating. Leon’s family will be receiving friends and family on Thursday, May 25 from 4:00PM to 8:00PM, also at the mortuary. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association or donor’s choice.
