

Margaret Ree Smith was born on November 28, 1939, to Roosevelt Swygert Sr. and Fannie Lee McGee-Swygert in Pickens, Ar. It was in Pickens that she was baptized and dedicated to Christ as a child. In December 1955 she married the late Wade Smith. Margaret was a loving mother of four beautiful daughters: Patricia Ann Smith, Sheila Yvonne Boyd (Daniel), Donna Ree Smith, and Joyce Ann Smith. She had a special bond with James Smith whom she considered a son.
Margaret was a dedicated employee at Delco Electronics, retiring after 30 years. She was a member of Local 292. Ivy tech Community College was where she attained two degrees in Carpentry. Working with her hands was more than her vocation, it was her hobby.
Margaret loved spending time with her family, cooking delicious meals, reading novels, and doing word scramble puzzles.
She leaves to cherish her memory one daughter, Joyce, a sister Isabella Holmes, sister-in-law Maxine Swygert and close cousin/sister, Olivia (Suga Pie) Bennett, nieces, Norris O’Bannon, Regina Swygert and Eureka Swygert, whom she was very close to. She also leaves behind her longtime companion, Fred Sink.
Margaret’s memory will continue to live on through her grandchildren: Raymond (Faith) Agnew, Topeika Tharpe, Arsheita (Jason) Key, Keith Boyd, and Patrick Johnson and a host of great and great-great grandchildren, and other family members.
She was preceded in death by her parents, 3 daughters, 2 brothers: Roosevelt Swygert and Alexander Swygert, 2 sisters-in-law Myra Swygert and Jean Swygert. 2 grandchildren: Myron Corbin and Deshon Downing, and 1 great grandchild: Delon Downing: and one nephew Kevin Swygert.
A visitation, from 1-2pm, followed by a funeral service at 2pm for Margaret will be held Friday, February 2, 2024 at Ellers Mortuary & Crematory Center, 3400 S. Webster Street, Kokomo, Indiana 46902. Her final resting place will be Kokomo Memorial Park.
