Mary was born July 6, 1953, in Muncie, to the Reverends Bob G. and Clara M. Barber. She graduated in 1971 from Haworth High School. She married Jeffrey Graves on March 23, 1973, at Foursquare Gospel Church, Kokomo. Together, they raised two daughters. She attended Kokomo First Church of the Nazarene.
Mary was “mamaw” to her grandkids. She loved to rock them and sing her special song to them. She loved all of her family dearly. They will always remember summer vacations in Minnesota; and the countless gatherings in her home, where they played games, told stories, and laughed until their stomachs hurt.
Mary loved to read, and attended a monthly book club with family and friends. She and her husband went to restaurants and sporting events, took trips together, and cherished each other’s company. Above all else, Mary loved God with her whole heart, served Him, and prayed that He would be glorified through her illness. She praised Jesus every day.
She is survived by her husband, Jeffrey; two daughters, Becky (Jeremy) Pentland and Kimberly (Dustin) McLochlin; two brothers, David (Ellen) and Michael Barber; five grandchildren, Joshua, Andrew and Matthew Pentland, and Brixton and Mazzy McLochlin; in-laws, Bonnie and Gary Graves and Sandy and Dick Graves; and many loved nieces and nephews, relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; sister-in-law, Pam Barber; and two nephews, Chad Barber and Michael Graves, in infancy.
A celebration of life service will be at 3 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 18, at Kokomo First Church of the Nazarene, 2734 S. Washington St., followed by a fellowship time. Everyone is welcome. Ellers Mortuary is handling arrangements.
The family extends special thanks to Bonnie and Gary Graves, Penni Matchett, their church family, Dr. Annette Moore and the staff at Community Howard Regional Health, and all those who visited, called, helped and prayed.
Memorial contributions may be made to Kokomo First Church of the Nazarene.
