Mary Evelyn Grimes Rice

Mary Evelyn Rice, 60, Kokomo, passed away in her home on Thursday, August 29, 2013, at 1:25 p.m., surrounded by family. She was born in Tipton on October 16, 1952, the seventh child of Marion Edward Grimes and Mary Lou Mace Grimes. She was a 1970 graduate of Western High School, and she retired from General Motors in 2006. Mary loved her family deeply and found the greatest joy in her grandchildren. She was drawn to helping others and was a CNA, a doula, a CASA volunteer, and Howard Community Hospital volunteer. She also enjoyed her pets, wildlife, cross stitching, quilting, playing cards, and shopping for others. Mary is survived by husband of 34 years, Joe Rice, Kokomo; daughters, Freedom Kolb and husband Marcus, Fishers, and Brandy Snyder and husband Damon, Noblesville; son Robert Rice, Fortville; five granddaughters, Emersen, Sullivan, Monroe, Presley and Logan; four sisters and three brothers. She was preceded in death by her parents and one sister. Services to celebrate her life will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Sunset Memory Garden Funeral Home with Pastor Adam Harger officiating. Burial will follow in Sunset Memory Garden Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
