

Melvin L. “Dick” Springer, 88, Kokomo, passed on Saturday, September 28, 2013, at North Woods Village. He was born February 9, 1925, in Muncie, to Levi Springer and Blanche (Runyon) Springer Stanley. On July 4, 1948, he married Joan (McGibbon) Springer, and she survives.
He worked at Chrysler Casting and retired in 1978. He and his wife were avid travelers and campers. He loved hunting, and he followed all of his grandkids sporting events as long as possible. He was a member of UAW Local #1166 and the First Church of God.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his children, Kennard (Caren) Springer, Fred (Joyce) Springer, Lachita (Darrell) Minix, and Lee (Neal Bowers) Springer; six grandchildren, Justin (Bianca) Springer, Doug (Alice) Springer, Chad (Tracy) Springer, Lindsey Springer, Haley (Tyler) Minix Delks, and Andrea (Robert) Cooper; eleven great-grandchildren; and one sister, Wilma Joan Markins.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one sister; two brothers; and two grandchildren, Derrick and Megan Minix.
The funeral service will be held at 12 p.m. on Wednesday at First Church of God, 5937 S. Park Rd., Kokomo, with Pastor Jerry Ausbrook officiating. Burial will follow in Sunset Memory Garden Cemetery.
