Miriam ‘Jean’ Alice Rinehart, 83, residing in Kokomo with her daughter Cheryl ‘Sherri’ Rinehart and adopted daughter Sylvia Mason, went to be with her Savior and Lord on October 12, 2010 at home.
Jean was born in Prairie Township on September 28, 1927 to William and May (Carmony) Harlow. In 1945, she was one of eleven graduates from Prairie High School; she later attended Indiana University Kokomo.
Jean retired from General Motors/Delco Electronics after 30 years of service. During that time, she became one of the first women promoted to the position of supervisor and later became a layout engineer.
Jean loved spending time with her family and reading her Bible. She was very active in her church and enjoyed assisting with preparation of the church newsletter with her good friend Heidi Johnson, holding Bible studies in her home, and befriending many people. She was a master seamstress, loved to bake, and was very fond of classical music. She especially enjoyed working in her yard. In her later years, one of her favorite pastimes was watching FOX news.
Jean is survived by her daughter, Cheryl ‘Sherri’ Rinehart of Kokomo; son, David and wife Carmen Rinehart of Monticello, Kentucky; adopted daughter, Sylvia Mason of Kokomo; grandson, Adam Rinehart; granddaughter, Haley Rinehart; grandson, Brandon Hyde and wife Danielle; great-grandchildren, Emmilynn, Iain, and Sam Rinehart, Arianna and Elijah Hochstedler, Nathan, Conner, and Brookelyn Hyde; and beloved Yorkie, Maggie. She also leaves behind many beloved nieces and nephews and very close friends.
Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, Wilmer and his wife Beryl Harlow and brother, James Harlow.
The family wishes to thank Dr. Carl Kuenzli and the wonderful nurses and staff of Amedisys Hospice, as well as church family and friends who provided assistance and loving support throughout the course of Jean’s decline.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. on Friday at Sunset Memory Garden Funeral Home with Pastors Adam Rinehart and Jerry Ausbrook officiating. Entombment will be at Sunset Memory Garden Cemetery, Kokomo. Friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m. on Thursday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to First Church of God building fund. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
