Robert L Yard

Robert L. Yard, age 86, passed away on June 12, 2018 at his home in Kokomo while surrounded by his loving family. Robert was born on October 18, 1931 in Kokomo to the late Benjamin Franklin and Mary Louise (Guge) Yard. Robert enlisted in the United States Army during the Korean War and was stationed in Germany. After he completed his service to his country, he found work at Chrysler as a furnace repairman, and worked there for 32 years before retiring. In 1961, Robert was married to Margaret Brown, and she survives. He served for the Salvation Army’s Disaster Relief, and was also appointed as a Deacon for the Salvation Army and taught Sunday school classes for them. He was very active in several activities, which included golfing, bowling, hunting, and fishing. Robert would also spend his free time building furniture and painting. In addition to his wife, Margaret Yard, Robert is survived by his children, Cynthia (Ken) Frazier, Randy Yard, Anita King, and Robert (Christy) Yard II; sisters, Diana Anderson, Cheryl Yard, Debbie Blakely, and Carolyn Aaron; brothers, Jerry Yard Sr., Charles Yard, and Bill Yard; and grandchildren, Darrin Adcock, Joshua Adcock, Michael Adcock, Misty Adcock, Jason Blevins, Christopher Blevins, Stephanie Kitson, Kristina Yard, Randy Yard II, Benjamin Yard, Dale Sizemore, Justin Yard, Sarina Browne, Merranda Hamm, and Jeremy Robinson. Robert also leaves 28 great grandchildren, and two great-great grandchildren to cherish his memory. In addition to his parents, Robert was preceded in death by his brothers, Ralph Yard, Fred Yard, and Benny Yard, and granddaughters, Bella Adcock and Tabitha Groover. There will be a public visitation for Robert held at Sunset Memory Garden Funeral Home on Saturday, June 16th from 12-1, with a funeral service immediately following. Memorial contributions in Robert’s name may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
