Walter Richard Petty

Walter Richard Petty, 87, of Kokomo, Indiana departed this life a little after midnight, Sunday December 26, 2021 in St Vincent Hospital in Kokomo following an extended illness. He was born November 28, 1934 in Kokomo, IN the youngest of 6 children to Eldon and Viola Petty (Mohler). He was raised in eastern Howard County and graduated from Eastern High School in 1952. On November 26, 1960 he married Judith A. (Kelsay) Petty.

Walt retired from Kokomo Chrysler Transmission where he served as a department supervisor for several years. Walt and Judy spent their retirement years in North Port, Florida where he enjoyed golfing, swimming in their pool, and hosting gatherings with friends and neighbors. They returned to Kokomo in 2013 to be closer to their grandchildren and great grandchildren. Walter loved watching sports and was an avid Indianapolis Colts, Indiana Pacers, and Indiana University Hoosiers basketball fan. He enjoyed spending time in the yard and watching the birds and wildlife. His greatest joy was spending time with family.

He is survived by his wife Judy, daughter Dianna (Riggle) Wolfinger and husband Todd, of Port Charlotte, FL; granddaughter Amber Brantley and husband Kristopher, of Kokomo, granddaughter Harmony Cook and husband Matt, of Kokomo, grandson Derrick Turner and girlfriend Jessica King, of Port Charlotte, FL; greatgrandchildren, Brooklyn Brantley, Justin Brantley, Marla Murray, and Kailin Cook. He is also survived by brothers Earl Petty, wife Juanita of Greentown, and Ferris Petty, of Kokomo; and several nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his parents, his sister Loretta Harvey, and brothers Melvin Petty and Ferrell Petty.

Visitation will be 12:00 PM - 2:00 PM Thursday, December 30, 2021 at Sunset Memory Garden Funeral Home 2097 West Alto Road Kokomo, Indiana 46902. The funeral service will begin at 2:00 PM Thursday, December 30, 2021 at the funeral home and Entombment will follow at Sunset Memory Garden Cemetery Kokomo, Indiana. www.sunsetmemorygarden.com.
