William S. Hite

William “Steve” Hite, 84, of Kokomo passed away January 21, 2019. He was born July 21, 1934 in Kokomo to William P. and Florence (Lewellen) Hite. In 1955 Steve joined the Navy and was stationed in San Diego, California and later deployed to Korea. For his service, he received a Chine Service Medal, United Nations Service Medal, Korean Service Medal one star and a National Defense Service Medal. For 60 years Steve was a member of the Plumbers and Steamfitters Union Local 440 and also served as an apprentice instructor with them as well. In his retirement he enjoyed refurbishing homes to sell and could, more often than not, be found playing cards with friends or watching old Westerns on TV. Mostly Steve loved his family, and spent much of his time with them, gathering as often as they could. Steve is survived by his sister, Betty Johnston; children, Mitch (Shelly) Hite, Stacy (Chris) Daily, Beth (Steve) Dillon, Kelly (Tom) Dragstrem, Todd (JoAnn) Hite and William P. (Ashley) Hite; 13 grandchildren; 10 great grandchildren (and 2 on the way); and many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Steve was preceded in death by siblings, Chalmer, Eugene, Paul and Peggy. There will be a private graveside service held at Sunset Memory Garden Funeral home Friday, January 25.
