Dan was born in Lebanon, Oregon in 1953 to John and Shirly Lewis. He grew up a boy scout under the leadership of his dad as a scout leader and his mom as a den mom. His family loved camping, fishing and exploring Oregon together, they would load up in the family station wagon and head somewhere beautiful and remote. He excelled in many sports: tennis, football, and baseball being some of his favorites.
Dan graduated from Lebanon High School in 1972 and attended Oregon State University where he earned a bachelor's degree in forest products in 1978. He worked in the industry for several years before going to Willamette University where he would earn an MBA with an emphasis on Information Technology in 1986.
In 1988, Dan moved to San Diego and got a little house near the beach so his dogs could have easy access to “Dog Beach". He loved the sunshine and the craft brewing culture.
He had a long and successful career in IT, starting at Community Care Network (1988-1991), followed by Touch Technologies (1991-1994) and finally Sharp Healthcare (1994-2011). He was very well respected in his industry.
Dan met his wife Denise Amemiya in the late 90’s at Sharp. They shared a sense of humor and loved being around each other. Some of their first dates were Padres games and they continued to be fans and season ticket holders for many years. They often drove up the coast to visit family in Oregon, and they always stayed at the Oregon Coast to enjoy fresh hopped beer at Rogue, hunt chanterelle mushrooms and eat Dungeness crab and oysters.
Dan was very invested in the people he cared about, for instance, he knew Denise loved when the desert wildflowers bloomed in the valley after a big rain, and he always made time to take her there to view them. Dan was happy when the people he cared about were happy.
Dan was sharp and quick witted - some would describe him as irreverent. He was known for his one-liners and hilarious emails.
Dan loved dogs, they were very important to him, especially his dog Rose. He had many special dogs over his lifetime.
Dan was preceded in death by his parents John and Shirley Lewis. He is survived by his beloved wife Denise and their dog Rose, his brother Don and wife Leslie Lewis, his sister Sue and husband Ellis Stutzman, and his nieces Emily and Annie and his nephew Dan Stutzman.
A small family service was held.
