Mr. Eric Nathaniel Hunter, who passed away at 77 years old on June 3, 2024, in La Mesa, California surrounded by his family. Though we are deeply saddened, we rejoice in knowing that he is present with the Lord in Heaven.
He was born Eric Nathaniel Hunter on November 17, 1947, in Port Antonio, Portland, Jamaica. He was the youngest of children between Robert Hunter and Iris Hunter of Highgate, St. Mary, Jamaica. Affectionately called “Rickey,” he spent his early years living in Kingston, Jamaica and moved to New York City, NY in 1974. He lived there and started his young family before moving to Colorado, where he became a United States citizen in 1984. Eventually, he made made it to San Diego, CA, which has been his home since 1994.
Eric earned a B.A. in Psychology from Hunter College with a minor in Chemistry, as well as an M.A. in Developmental Psychology from Columbia University. Eric was the epitome of an entrepreneur: after attending dental school for some time and then switching tracks, he owned and operated various businesses throughout his life. He bought and ran a gas station, he started a travel company to Jamaica, and he put a unique twist on selling Jamaican beef patties from a hot dog cart he owned, just to name a few. His career path ultimately led him to the financial industry, where he worked on Wall Street and at Merrill Lynch as a very successful stock broker for many years before creating his own investment advisory firm, DECAL Financial Management. He enjoyed counseling individuals about creating wealth and financial comfort for themselves.
When he was not serving the Lord he enjoyed traveling, watching soccer and track, and most importantly spending time with his children, grandchildren and loved ones.
In the early 2000’s he rededicated his life back to Christ at the Billy Graham revival which ignited a passionate journey to save souls and please the Lord. He became a licensed minister through the SOCAL School of Ministry and launched “Thy Kingdom Come Today Ministry.” His love and dedication to introduce Jesus to people lead him in a direction to begin work as an Assemblies of God Evangelist.
He used every opportunity to spread the gospel of Jesus through countless ways. He had a radio ministry, international ministry and Friday evening Facebook lives. Thy Kingdom Come Today Ministry’s message was simple: invite Jesus into your heart so that you can embrace gifts of the Holy Spirit and get released into your gifts and healings.
To his family and friends, he was a close and loving supporter, confidant, advisor, role model, and always encouraged us to do our best. He loved and served the Lord. He will be more than dearly missed.
He is survived by his sisters, Pearl (Paddie) Magnus and Olive Hunter, and Adele Green, mother of daughters: Eriade Williams, Adiclere Evans, Cireeleda Trahan, Leadrice Hunter, and Decrielea Coney. He also leaves behind his nieces, Marcia Magnus, Melissa Walton and nephew Oliver, 14 grandchildren, 1 great grandchild, 3 great niece and nephews and a community of other relatives and friends who surrounded his life with love.
Preceding him in death are his father, Inspector of Police Robert (R.C.) Hunter; his brother, Odinga Omawalle (Barry Hunter); his mother, Mrs. Iris Hunter; his sister, Madge Y. (Madgie) Hunter; and his sister, Loris Hunter-Campbell.
