Our dear Gloria Estrada Grajeda passed away on April 30, 2022, after a long and storied life. She has once again been reunited with Gilbert Grajeda, her husband, who preceded her along with many family members and close friends. She is survived by Richard Grajeda, her son, daughter Irene Kushubar, grandson Jonathan Grajeda, granddaughter Ashley Lavie, step-grandson Todd Hastie, eight beautiful and talented great-grandchildren, and a broad extended family that includes numerous nieces and nephews and their family members.
Gloria was born and lived her entire life in San Diego County. She is the daughter of Fransico and Francisca Estrada. She and her sisters (Louisa and Ninfa) and stepbrother Angel were raised by their father, as they lost their mother Francisca at a young age. Despite the tragedy of not knowing her mother and having to endure the harsh realities associated with the Great Depression era, Gloria succeeded and prospered. She graduated from San Diego High in 1944 and built life-long relationships that helped to enrich her life.
On February 18, 1950, she married her true love Gilbert and enjoyed a long and happy marriage of 69 years. Gloria and Gilbert loved to go to dances and house parties with family and friends. She travelled to many interesting places throughout the US and Mexico. She had a kind and good-natured spirit who was always willing to help those in need. Like so many of her generation Gloria was humble, resourceful, and had a strong work ethic. She valued community over self-importance and used her keen insight and intuition to guide her decisions. She was known for her fortitude, high energy, and trustworthiness. Although she felt compelled to work throughout her life until retirement, she also enjoyed a passion for sewing, quilting, painting, and various crafts activities.
Gloria’s work here on earth is completed, her legacy and teachings will live on through her family. She is an excellent role model to others in the ability to be ever perseverant and have a fulfilling life with dignity and unquestioned character. She, along with Gilbert, are truly missed.
Please join Gloria’s family as they honor her. A rosary will be said at 6pm on Monday, May 23rd at Erickson-Anderson Mortuary in La Mesa, CA. Visitation hours will be between 4pm and 8pm that same day. A mass will be held at 10am the next day, May 24th, at Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church. A brief internment ceremony will follow at El Camino Memorial Cemetery beginning at 11:45am.
