Herminia will be remembered as a wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, aunt and friend. She was born on February 19, 1918, in La Jolla, Jalisco, Mexico. She was the second oldest of 4 children. Daughter of Jesus Silva and Melesia Melchor. Immigrated to Tijuana B.C. Mexico in the 1940’s where she met her future husband Arnulfo Vera Alcala. They were married in 1947 and immigrated to Lemon Grove, California in 1951. After immigrating, one of her first jobs was to cook for the Braceros fruit pickers. This is where she began to perfect the delicious food and flour tortillas we all loved. She always helped her family far and near, never turning down an opportunity to work to better their lives. She lived and raised her family in Lemon Grove. She will be remembered for her fast wit, loud laughter and for all the help she gave countless families and individuals in her 103 years of life.
