Jack R. Koch of La Mesa, the youngest son of Martin Koch and Etta A. Remnant, died February 13, nineteen days shy of his 91st birthday. Jack was born in Martins Ferry, Ohio, to a miner/tin mill worker and homemaker. He had four brothers, Martin G., Clarence W., James E., and Robert K. The family left Martins Ferry, Ohio, for the Columbus area in search of opportunity which they found in the restaurant business, operating Beechwold Restaurant on North High Street. Etta was a force in the family, buying and selling homes, always moving up. Jack provided free labor in every move and on his brother James Gahanna farm.
Jack and Charlene E. Steinmetz married and raised their family of seven children in Columbus until moving to Chula Vista, California, in 1965. Jack joined his brother Robert at Rohr Industries where he worked as an aviation parts hand finisher until he retired. Jack is survived by children Jack Koch II, Marcia Bowman, Sheila Reed, Barbara Koch, Laura Koch, and Charlene San Vicente and many grand- and great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Jack is predeceased by son James and his 4 brothers. Dad, are you holding 29 points?
