Matthew Ryan Armstrong was born in Nashville, TN on March 11, 1981, and God took him home to heaven on October 10,2024. Matthew (Matt) was a joy to all who knew him whether he was leading worship at the Kindred Church in La Mesa, at the North County Church of Christ or as an active leader on the University of Tennessee March Band (Pride) or simply as a friend. Matt was adored and loved by many as they encountered his warm and infectious smile and spirit. Matt influenced others to see hope in themselves and to see God as they maneuvered through the often-challenging rivers of their lives. He was always smiling and filled with the joy of God and was an inspiration to all who met him. He deeply loved people and never had an enemy.
Matt loved leading worship. He loved learning new songs as well as writing songs. His love for God and appreciation for being saved through the blood of Jesus kept his own hope and purpose alive. He grew his worship band at the Kindred church in La Mesa and influenced all who were a part of the group. Matt helped all of them to know God more deeply.
Matthew leaves behind his mother, Deb Armstrong, his father Randy Armstrong and his wife Linda (Linda Mom) Armstrong. His brother Dr. Drew Armstrong, his Grandmother, Nancy Haese and Grandparents Johnnie (Bob) Ping. He also leaves behind his uncle Dr. Larry Armstrong (Laurie) and Niece Dr. Shelby (Dr. Nathan) Tripod and Nephew Cameron (Sydney) Armstrong.
Many friends and family have an emptiness in their lives by Matt’s passing. All of us look forward to seeing him in heaven one day. He will meet us at the gate with his huge loving smile!
Matthew was also an organ donor and he gave his cornea to bless someone else’s life.
In lieu of flowers you may make a donation in Matt’s name to the American Kidney Fund or Feed the Children.
