She is preceded in death by her husband Kenneth Arthur Vokey and husband Wilbur Armbrust as well as by her parents and 8 siblings.
Phyllis was born on May 11, 1927 in Montreal Canada to Arthur Lloyd Perry and Mary Ann Kennett. She attended business school and began her first job at age 17 as a bank teller in downtown Montreal. This is where she met her husband and father of her children, Ken Vokey. He was a customer who kept wooing her until she agreed to date him. They were together until Ken’s death in 1989. After marrying, Phyllis and Ken immigrated to Los Angeles, CA along with several other Perry family members including Phyllis’ parents. This began a history of Perry family gatherings in her parents’ large backyard in Compton, CA. The 20+ cousins still “gather” on Facebook and reminisce about those Perry family times together.
The Perry family grew up in the Methodist church in Montreal, Canada and Phyllis kept that tradition raising her children in the Methodist church once in California. Phyllis loved traditions…especially those that revolved around meals. She was an expert at maintaining the English heritage of her parents with dinners of roast beef and Yorkshire pudding and making sure there were mincemeat tarts at Christmas time. Flavorful meals were her favorite event into her last weeks of life where the dinner around the table was the highlight of the day.
Phyllis enjoyed her occupation as a Bank Teller working for Security Pacific Bank and Bank of America where she retired as an operations officer. Phyllis and her husband, Ken, loved to socialize with bank co-workers and spent many Friday nights out dining and dancing with these friends. Phyllis valued her bank customers and maintained relationships with many of them even after retirement.
