Signa Ann Wilcox, born September 29, 1927 in San Diego, CA, passed away peacefully in her home May 26, 2021 surrounded by family and friends. Signa attended Memorial Jr. High where she met her future husband Guy F. ‘Bud’ Wilcox. Signa and Bud were happily married from April 12, 1947 until his passing in 2008.
Signa attended San Diego High School and graduated Class of 1945. After graduation she was employed as a bookkeeper for over 50 years, first at Kelco Corp. and later Asbury Steel Const. Co.
Shortly after high school, she, along with her sister and an extensive group of lifelong friends, formed the social club Chez Ami. They met every month to organize campouts, picnics, and numerous holiday events. In addition to her social club, since July 2009 she was an active member of the San Diego Chapter Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) and encouraged her family members to join as well.
Christmas was an important time for Signa. Every year she would entertain family and friends with a Christmas card which included a poem about the events of the previous year.
One relationship that Signa cherished was that of her sister Maxine. They were best friends and talked every day until Maxine’s death in 2018. Their families did everything together, such as birthdays, weddings, holidays, camping and trips to Disneyland.
Signa was a loving mother and deeply believed in the bonds of family. She believed in honesty, integrity, and kindness. She attended church every Sunday and treated everyone with respect and a welcoming smile. She was loved by all that knew her. She will live in our hearts and be forever missed.
Signa is survived by her son, Steve; grandchildren, Jeff, Devin, Hana, and Sofia; and great grandchild Wren. She was preceded in death by husband Bud, daughter Linda, son Terry, sisters Juanita and Maxine, and brothers Bud and Bob.
A memorial is planned on July 12 at Fort Rosecrans at 11:30am where she will be reunited with her husband, Bud, on his birthday. A Celebration of Life will be held afterwards at Humphreys Back Stage Harbor Island.
