EWERS, Teddy Eugene (Ted), age 90, passed away the morning of January 21st, 2024. After graduating high school in Los Banos, CA, Ted promptly joined the Navy at the age of 17 to serve in the Korean War. His Naval career spanned 22 years and included service on over 10 ships and several onshore tours of duty. Ted worked his way up to Warrant Officer working/managing in various capacities as pipe fitting, firefighting, machinists, and in his early years, playing upright bass and ukulele in the Ted Ewers’ band with other service members. On August 11th, 1956, Ted married Catherine Egan (deceased March 11th 2004) whom he met through USO events. They had five children, all of whom were born and raised in Lemon Grove, CA. A man of great faith, Ted served for many years as a lector in their parish of St. John of the Cross. Ted and Catherine were married for 47 years and spent much of their time traveling with their children while ensuring all of them knew how to hold their own in any game of cards. An avid reader and movie lover, Ted could tell you several facts about any actor from the Silver Screen Era. After retiring from the Navy in 1972, he began a second career with National Steel and Shipbuilding (NASSCO) and ultimately managed the Repair Estimating Team. He retired from NASSCO in 1995 and spent his golden years taking trips with his wife and grandchildren in his motor home and playing cards with friends and family on a weekly basis. Ted leaves behind a legacy of faith of family to be carried on by his five children (Catherine Mariani, Kevin Ewers, Eileen Patricia Corrao, Mary Candy, Joseph Ewers), eight grandchildren (Madeline, Catherine, Nicholas, Alexandra, Anthony, Mira, Michael, Tiffany), and two great-grandchildren (Tyrone and Theodore “Teddy”).
