
Mrs. Elizabeth ‘Betty’ Hodges Callahan, wife of 64 years to H. Grady Callahan, Jr. of Vernon Woods, LaGrange, died Thursday, February 17, 2011. Mrs. Callahan, daughter of Bradford and Margaret Hodges grew up in Atlanta. She attended North Fulton High School and graduated from the University of Georgia. After their marriage, the Callahan’s moved to LaGrange where she was a member of St. Mark’s Episcopal Church. She taught Church School for 20 years, was active in the Women of the Church and a former member of the Altar Guild.
At the time of her death, she was an active member of the West Georgia Health System Auxiliary with 39 years of service. She also was an active member of Hospice LaGrange with over 10 years of service. She had been the Plant Secretary at Tredegar Industries for 20 years. She was a member of the Spectator Book Club.
Mrs. Callahan is survived by her husband; a son, Henry Grady Callahan, III of Wilton Manor, Florida; a daughter, Margaret Callahan Burton, and her husband, James Darrell Burton of Sherwood, Arkansas; and two granddaughters, Kristine Vargas of Sherwood, AR and Elizabeth Moe of Raleigh, NC; and a great-grandson, David Moe of Raleigh.
Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Sunday, February 20, 2011 at St. Mark’s Episcopal Church with the Reverend Allen Pruitt officiating. Interment will be in the Columbarium of St. Elizabeth’s Garden at St. Mark’s.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to either West Georgia Health System Auxiliary, Hospice LaGrange, or St. Mark’s Episcopal Church.
