

Mr. Simpson was born April 19, 1926 in Newell, AL, son of the late The Reverend John William Simpson and Kate Cofield Simpson. He was a member of Faith Baptist Church and the Elm City Masonic Lodge. Mr. Simpson was employed with Callaway Mills Company for over 20 years and later was employed with the USDA, Food Safety and Inspection Service Department, before retiring. He was a U.S. Army veteran during which time he received the Philipine Liberation Ribbon, Army of Occupation Ribbon (Japan), and the Asiatic Pacific Theater Campaign Ribbon with 1 Bronze Star. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Grady Simpson, Brady Simpson, The Reverend Russell Simpson, and Morris Simpson, and sisters, Essie S. Harrington and Dessie Dodgen Sharpe.
Survivors include his wife of 64 years, Lillian Sheets Simpson; son and daughter-in-law, Nick and Anne Parmer Simpson; five grandchildren, Nicole Simpson Herring of Valdosta, GA, Melanie Parmer Hancock (Alan Ganstine) of Fort Myers, FL, Danielle Simpson Whitworth (Erick) of Columbus, GA, Tony Parmer (Jennifer) of Chatham, ON Canada; and Justin Simpson (Ivy) of Covington, GA; great grandchildren, Sarah, Hanna, Gracie, Eli, Tyson, Erik, Gunner, Jesse, McCartney, Lexie, Blanton, Caiti, Tristan, Andrea, Lennon, Avery, Charlette, and Coltin; sisters, Katie Jo Simpson Cook, Jeanelle Simpson Adair (Dennis), and Kate Tucker Grant; brother, Jim Simpson (Jean); and numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held 2:00 P.M. Thursday, October 25, 2012 at Striffler-Hamby Mortuary Chapel with Reverend Hal Simpson officiating. Burial will follow in Shadowlawn Cemetery.
The gathering of family and friends will be at the funeral home this evening from 6:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M.
