

Mr. Stephens was born April 6, 1919 in Gainesville, GA, son of the late Frank Stephens and Emma Wilson Stephens. He was a U.S. Navy veteran, serving in World War II as a Fireman 1st class from 1944 to 1945 aboard the U.S.S. Enterprise Aircraft Carrier. After his honorable discharge from the Navy, Mr. Stephens founded Stephens Printing Company in 1947 in his backyard smokehouse after working for the LaGrange Daily News. He poured his heart and soul into his work and was extremely proud of his presses and the work he accomplished. Mr. Stephens also owned and operated Stephens General Merchandise. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three sisters, Essie Poole, Edith Shephard, and Lucy Cagle, and three brothers, Hugh Stephens, Roy Stephens, and Oliver Stephens.
Survivors include his wife of 73 years, Hazel Gabrilla Stephens; two sons, Roger C. Stephens and Jerry L. Stephens; grandchildren, Gregg Stephens, Todd Stephens, Wendy King, Dawn Kennedy, Adam Garrett, and April Gantner; and great grandchildren, Lily Stephens, Andrew Stephens, Jeffrey Stephens, Ben Kennedy, Preston Kennedy, William King, and Mackenzie King.
The Celebration of Life Memorial Service will be held 1:00 P.M. Wednesday, May 21, 2014 in the Chapel of Striffler-Hamby Mortuary with Reverend Max McCord officiating. The gathering of family and friends will be on Tuesday evening from 5:30 P.M. to 7:30 P.M. at the funeral home and also on Wednesday from 12:00 P.M. to 1:00 P.M.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to West Georgia Hospice, 1510 Vernon Road, LaGrange, GA 30240 in memory of Mr. Guy C. Stephens.
