

Born May 4, 1943, in Kendallville, Indiana, the son of Mary Anne Adams Macomber and William Hiram Macomber, he is survived by his wife, Sally Culpepper Macomber of LaGrange; his mother-in-law Sally Lane Culpepper of LaGrange; his brother-in-law William Bert Culpepper, Jr. of Denver, CO; and his brother Marshall Adams Macomber of Indianapolis, IN.
He is also survived by his son and daughter-in-law Marshall Culpepper Macomber and Jennifer Ehrle Macomber of Washington, D.C.; his daughter and son-in-law Marianne Macomber Rice and Hunter McPherson Rice of Nashville, TN, and his grandsons William Spencer Rice and Cooper Holland Rice.
Macomber, the youngest of five children, attended Culver Military Academy in Culver, IN. He received his undergraduate degree in Business Administration from Northwestern University in Evanston, IL; and graduated with an MBA from the Emory University School of Business in Atlanta, GA. He retired from the U.S. Navy at the rank of Lieutenant in 1969.
He began his civilian career at Atlantic Steel in Atlanta, where he served as Vice President of Finance, and later he and his family moved to LaGrange where he founded computer and technology services company Comtec, Inc. Macomber was a twenty-five year member of the LaGrange Rotary Club. He was the organization’s longtime Club Secretary, and was twice named Rotarian of the Year, most recently in 2010. He and his wife were members of First Presbyterian Church of LaGrange.
A visitation for friends and family will be held at Striffler-Hamby Funeral Home in LaGrange on Sunday, September 12, 2010, from 4:30-6:30 p.m. A private service will be held on Monday at the columbarium at the First Presbyterian Church in LaGrange. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made in his name to West Georgia Hospice, LaGrange, Georgia.
