

JoAnn was born September 4, 1943 in LaGrange. She retired from the Troup County Board of Education, where she worked as a Teacher’s Assistant at Rosemont Elementary for many years. She was a member of Salem United Methodist Church.
Survivors include her husband of 51 years, Wayne Butts; children, Chuck (Michelle) Butts and Kristie (Scott) Galyon, all of Pine Mountain; her mother, Inez Thrash Freeman of LaGrange; a brother, Dwayne (Gail) Thrash of Hogansville; son-in-law, Dean Martin; grandchildren, Holly (Brandon) Benefield, Ryan Martin, Dusty Butts, Ashley Martin, Jordan Butts, Jake Galyon, Trevor Galyon, and Chloe Galyon; and great-granddaughters, Elizabeth and Madison Benefield.
She was preceded in death by her father, John Perry ‘Jake’ Thrash; a daughter, Dathney Martin; and a great-granddaughter, Autaum Benefield.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday, September 3, 2011.
A graveside funeral service will be held 2 p.m. Sunday, September 4, 2011 in Salem United Methodist Church Cemetery with Rev. Ellis Freeman officiating.
