Mrs. Freeman was born on March 8, 1924, in Washington, Georgia, to the late Mildred Sims and Benjamin Irvin Cheney.
She graduated from the University of Georgia with a degree in art, having studied under the late Lamar Dodd. After graduation she first taught art at Shorter College in Rome, Georgia, and then in Savannah,
Georgia, where she taught art to returning veterans of World War II. After her marriage in 1948 she made her home in Greenville, Georgia, with her late husband, Benjamin Rosser Freeman III. She remained a resident of Greenville until her move to Vernon Woods Retirement Community in LaGrange in 2017.
She is survived by her three daughters, Nan DuBose Freeman, Beth Freeman Williams and husband Scott, Patricia Freeman Bauman and husband Kim; daughter-in-law Karla Kibler Freeman; a sister, Patricia Cheney Britt; two brothers, Benjamin Irvin Cheney, Jr., and Marion Pope Cheney; eight grandchildren and sixteen greatgrandchildren.
In addition to her late husband, she was preceded in death by her son, Benjamin Rosser Freeman IV, and her sister Mimi Cohen.
A memorial service will be held Thursday, June 20, 2019, at 2:00p.m., at Greenville Baptist Church, Greenville, Georgia, with a reception following in the fellowship hall of the church.
