Dear Family of Cousin Mike,
   I would send my condolences and prayers for your loss. I had just updated my prayer list to include my cousins and this was after the fact but before I was aware that Cousin Mike had passed away. Though not on Facebook myself, I have been aware of late regarding Tim and Gail and their trials and heard about this news through my sister Julie (the youngest of this generation of Hamre's). 
   Just would also add that in the 1960's we had so much fun visiting San Fernando to see Uncle Herman, Aunt Frances and our cousins Mike, Tim and Doug. We also enjoyed the Glendale trips to see Uncle Lester, Aunt Helen and Linda and Maureen. Really, these things are etched in my good memories. I last saw Mike when my Dad, his Uncle Mel (the youngest in his family) took Mike, Tim, Doug and me to dinner one December weeknight to "The Uptowner" in Yucaipa, CA. They were living in Mentone at the time, Dad worked in Redlands. The year was 1973 so, yes, a long time ago.
   May your memories sustain you and may you know that, while apart, there is still a connection in the Hamre family that will not be forgotten and we bring you before God for comfort in your difficult hours. 

My thoughts of my Uncle Mike. Kind, funny, analytical and genuine. I remember when our family visited he opened up his home, showed us civil war sites, met with his friends and just enjoyed his wonderful family. We went on a Grand canyon- Green Creek trip together( fantastic memories there). When he would visit  the countless hours of Risk and Stratego we would play. Always enjoyed my times with Uncle Mike. The last time I had the pleasure of spending time with Uncle Mike was at Patricia’s wedding.  I will always remember how proud he was of his girls and his family.  I will forever cherish the memories of the road trip with him to Uncle Tim’s wedding and his witty sense of humor that somehow always had perfect timing.  He will be missed.  – Jon Hamre (nephew)

I can say I’ve known him my whole life, being the youngest of the brothers.  Mike was my Best Man, and I was his.  Mike had to grow up fast as our mother suffered from a creeping paralysis, due to a brain tumor, that eventually took her life on her 50th birthday.  Mike was 14 but had already stepped up to help around the house and to care for our mother.  Two years later we lost our father to another cancer.  The draft was still active when he turned 18, and when his number came up he took the advice of our brother Gary (Navy vet) and enlisted in the Navy to become a Seabee.  He enjoyed introducing me as his “little brother”, mostly because I was quite a bit taller than he.
I often told him that he broke the family curse, he had girls!  He has no sisters or nieces on the Hamre side (although he has 2 grandnieces).  There is no doubt he loved being a dad to Patricia and Ruth Ann, as much he loved them.  Kay is obviously his soulmate, as 37 years testify.  We will all miss him greatly.

Michael was such a blessing to me .He was a large part of our church and I know his family will miss him very much.So will his church family.Rest high and we will see you again.
