A native of Talladega, Ora Lee enjoyed cross-stitching, word puzzles, bingo, a beautifully kept yard, church, Mexican food, square dancing, her granddog Praline and, most of all, her family and friends. She talked to her daughter nearly every day and never met a stranger.
Ora Lee was a longtime employee of Rich's Department Store in Atlanta. After retiring to LaGrange, she was an active member of the Women's Auxiliary, the Jammers, and the "Mushrooms," a group of her closest friends who met each month for hours of joyous fellowship. She lived at Benton House in Covington, Ga., the past six months and was very grateful for their loving care.
Ora Lee was a beautiful person inside and out who touched many lives. She will be greatly missed and never forgotten by those who loved her.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 34 years, Homer Daniel Gilliland; precious son David Michael Gilliland of Owensboro, Ky.; and sisters Lorene Wesley Lashley of Lineville, Ala., and Alta Wesley McLemore of Talladega, Ala.
She is survived by her beloved daughter, Linda Leigh Newberry of Conyers, Ga.; grandchildren Melissa Leigh Gilliland of Owensboro, Ky., and Daniel Hudson Newberry of Conyers; sister Frances Wesley Wilson of Montgomery, Ala.; son-in-law Paul Hudson Newberry III of Conyers; and daughter-in-law Jean Ann Towery Gilliland of Owensboro.
