

Sammie Nell Fugitt Jones of Harris County Georgia, and resident of Vernon Woods Retirement Community in LaGrange, Georgia died peacefully on November 21, 2016. She was born in Booneville, Mississippi on January, 12, 1928 to Joseph W. Fugitt and Rella White Fugitt. She was the devoted and beloved wife of Fred L. Jones for 66 years.
She was preceded in death by her loving daughter, Louanne Jones Woliver. She is survived by husband, Fred L. Jones; son, Frederick Lamar (Mary Lee) Jones III of Atlanta; grandson, Christopher Woliver of Atlanta; and 6 nieces and nephews.
After graduation from Booneville High School, Sammie attended Belhaven University in Jackson, MS and Delta State University in Cleveland, MS. She was a talented student of business communications and taught shorthand, typing, and other skills at high schools in Mississippi. After teaching, her skills were an asset to numerous businesses and organizations.
Sammie was married to Fred L. Jones on September 11, 1950. Sammie was a vital support to Fred's career with the General Electric Company. Family moves included Schenectady, NY, Lynn, MA, Fort Wayne, IN, El Paso, TX, DeKalb, IL, South Bend, IN, Fort Wayne, IN, and Atlanta, GA.
Moving to Georgia with Fred's Retirement found Sammie with many new friends and activities. She loved her part in rebuilding, redecorating, and making the farmhouse and grounds at Jones Crossroads Farm a warm and welcoming home. There were new friends at the First Methodist Church in LaGrange. She shared her talents with all. She served several times as President of her Sunday School Class and served on committees at the Church. She was active in community affairs at Jones Crossroads and in supporting Fred in area organizations. Sammie was a great cook & loved good food and socializing. She enjoyed her books, birds and flowers, and had a wonderful smile and laugh that brightened up a room. She was a caring, loving, and supportive Mother and Grandmother.
Sammie and Fred were always on the go and traveled across the world. Many cruises and trips took them to Europe, Russia, South America, Hawaii, and Alaska. They traveled extensively in the US visiting friends all over the country. When at home she most loved hosting Family and treasured Friends.
Funeral Services will be 2:00pm Monday, November 28, 2016 in the Sanctuary of First United Methodist Church of LaGrange with Reverend Helen Henry officiating. The Family will receive Friends at the Church following the Memorial Service. A private burial service will be held at the Union Baptist Church Cemetery at Jones Crossroads.
Flowers are welcome or Memorial gifts may be made to the LaGrange United Methodist Church, The Walter Murphy Rotary Scholarship Fund at LaGrange College, or the charity of your choice in memory of Mrs. Sammie Nell Fugitt Jones.
