“Bill”, as he was affectionately known was born December 7, 1928 in Chambers County, AL, son of the late Robert Franklin Nelson and Ruth Jane Duffie Nelson. He was known as the “Honest” car salesman, operating Nelson’s Used Cars for a number of years. Bill attended First Assembly of God, enjoyed fishing, church camp, gospel singings and promoted many singings during the 70’s and 80’s. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Colleen Nelson; sister, Sarah Pritchett; brothers, Aaron Nelson, Robert Nelson, Arthur Lee Nelson, and Hurtley Nelson; and a great grandchild, Austin Garcia.
Survivors include his sons, Eugene “Gene” Clinton Nelson and William “Bruce” (Karen) Nelson; daughters, Joy Holt, Kathy (Roddy) Clifton, Susan (David) Cross, and Joy (Ralph) Littlejohn; grandchildren, Jatina Nelson, Cori Nelson, Kathy (Matt) McFadden, Brad (Jasmine) Nelson, Michelle (Travis) Johnson, Brian Calhoun, Blake Jordan, Madison Toney, Amber Rainey, Josh (Valerie) Stephens, Beth Barber, and Jonathon (Natalie) Barber; 17 great grandchildren; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
The Celebration of Life Service will be held 3:00pm Wednesday, August 19, 2020 in the Chapel of Striffler-Hamby Mortuary with Rev. David Cross and Bishop Tim Lamb officiating.
