Aquilla Joy Duplechian, age 90, of Lake Charles, Louisiana passed away on Friday, May 20, 2022 peacefully at her home with her family by her side. Aquilla was born January 3, 1932 to Gus Spears and Juilia McCoy Spears.
Aquilla was a native of Mamou and resident of Lake Charles for most of her life where she was a member of First United Methodist Church. She graduated from Vidrine High School and then was employed with Winegartens for over 30 years. After retiring, she became the Co-owner of Henry Heights Grocery Story and Progressive Motors. Those who knew her will remember her for having a green thumb with flowers, loving to travel and cook, but most importantly, being her grandchildren's #1 FAN when it came to them playing sports. Aquilla always knew how to make her friends feel like family.
Those left to cherish her memory are her children, Roger Duplechian (Linda) and Nava Jo Ford (Richard); grandchildren, Josh Duplechian (Molly), Jason Duplechian (Adrienne), Ben Duplechian, Jenna Denton (Paul), Tabitha Rankin (Trey), and Brandon Golden (Kelli); nine great grandchildren; and a brother, Donny Spears (Jackie).
She is preceded in death by her parents, Juilia McCoy Spears and Gus Spears; two sisters, Betty Aguillard and Gussie Spears; and a brother, Sonny Spears.
The family will welcome relatives and friends on Tuesday, May 24, 2022 at First United Methodist Church of Lake Charles beginning at 11:00 a.m. until the time of services. Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 p.m. at the church. Burial will be immediately following at St. Louis Cemetery in Eunice.
