

Betty was born March 4, 1938 in Lake Charles, LA and graduated from Lake Charles High School. After she graduated, Betty attended Newcomb College in New Orleans, LA obtaining a B.A. Degree from Newcomb. Her love for history led her to Tulane University, where she received a M.A. degree and a Ph D in history. After Tulane, she became a history professor at the University of New Orleans (UNO) for many years. Her love for history encouraged her to write and publish a book “The New Deal in Louisiana” 1933-1939.
Betty simply loved New Orleans Art, Louisiana History, Newcomb, music, horse-racing and Tulane. She was a devoted fan of the Tulane Green Wave teams and the New Orleans Saints. She had many friends whom she loved and they encouraged her to stay in New Orleans.
Betty is survived by her sister, Margaret F. Boudreau, nephew, Bob Boudreau, sister-in-law, Patsy Calhoun and her extended nieces and many caregivers and friends that she cherished. She is also survived by her dear friend and caregiver, Vivian Smith of New Orleans.
Betty Field was preceded in death by her parents, Frank and Juliet Field, brother-in-law, Bobby Boudreau and her beloved Aunt Bea Field of New Orleans.
Her visitation will be from 1:00pm until time of service at 2:00pm, Monday, June 20, 2016 at Hixson Funeral Home of Lake Charles. Rev. Frances Boo Kay will officiate. Burial will follow at Graceland Cemetery. Words of comfort may be shared with the family at www.hixsonfuneralhomes.com
