Derrick Nathaniel Davis was born on January 31, 1972 to Angela Davis and Robert Scypion and was raised by his mother and Wilfred Lawrence, Sr. Derrick was preceded in death by his grandparents, Aaron and Drusella Davis and Alvin and Martha Lawrence. He was baptized at Immaculate Heart of Catholic Church, where he also received the sacraments of First Communion and Confirmation.
He was reared in Lake Charles, LA. He attended Cherry Street Elementary School, Ray D. Molo Middle School, and Washington High School. He attended the job corp in the field of Culinary Arts.
He was previously employed at Harrah's Casino as a Deckhand Supervisor, and at the Lake Charles Airport as a fireman. He worked at a group home for intellectually challenged individuals in Guthrie, Oklahoma. They truly enjoyed his cooking and companionship. They referred to him as "Daddy". He truly loved that job.
Derrick was a kind and caring individual. He was easy-going and friendly with all he encountered.
Derrick departed this life on Sunday, December 3, 2023, at the age of fifty-one. He leaves to mourn his departure and cherish his memories his mother, Angela Davis, his sister Ashley Lawrence, a bonus sister Amy Trahan Robinson, his brother Wilfred (Brandy) Lawrence, Jr. His daughters Desirey (Cedric) Williams, and Nija Davis. His son Devonte Tillis and a bonus son Omar Ramirez. He also leaves behind two grandchildren, Makayla Hillary, and Malaysia Williams. He leaves a special friend, Patrick Wiggins. Finally, he leaves a host of Aunts, including his Godmother, Mary Richard-Land, uncles, cousins, and friends. He will be greatly missed.
Visitation will begin at 9:00 a.m. until 11:15 a.m. on Saturday, December 16, 2023 at J.E. Hixson Funeral Home in the Chapel of Peace.
A Mass of Christian Burial will begin at Noon at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church in Lake Charles with Rev. Rommel Tolentino officiating. Burial will follow in Perkins Cemetery, Saint John Bosco St., Westlake, LA 70669.
Active Pallbearers will be Chris Davis, Cedric Williams, Mike Carlson, Steven Wiley, Lannis Motton, and Lupe Ramirez. Honorary Pallbearers will be Wilfred Lawrence Jr., Karl Spain Jr., Richard Land Jr., Ronald Lawrence, Troy Davis, Travis Davis, Corey Davis, Kevin Spain Sr., Kevin Spain Jr., Gerald Davis, Kevin Harris Jr., and Patrick Davis, Sr.
