

She was born in Fal, LA on October 20, 1920 and grew up in DeQuincy, LA. She later married John Palermo of Lake Charles, LA. In their early years, they both worked at a large rice mill in Lake Charles. Later, Edna worked at a local grocery store and her husband, John, worked as a carpenter and for the Lake Charles Fire Department as a station captain. They raised a son, John E. Palermo, who retired from the U.S. Forest Service. In 1998, Edna moved to Yucaipa to live next to her son and daughter-in-law. Edna was, affectionally known as “Bugs”, by her family and friends, as well as for her pleasant, loving and sweet smile. She loved to sew, keep house and cook for family and friends. She was a Christian who loved the Lord, a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother who loved her brothers and sisters and their families.
Survivors include her son, John E. Palermo and his wife, Ginger M. Palermo of Yucaipa, CA; grandson, Chad M. Palermo, his spouse, Viktoria Palermo and great granddaughter, Sarah M. Palermo of San Diego, CA.
She was preceded in death by her husband, John Palermo; grandson, Darrin S. Palermo; parents, Edward Shroll and Zella Dyess Shroll; brothers, Norman Shroll, twin brother, Edward Clyde Shroll, Everett Shroll, Carroll Knight; sisters, Marie Tipping, Marletta Baukman, Fern Griscom, Ira Bea Broxson and Elsie Crewell.
A Memorial Service will be held at 11am on Monday, November 21, 2016 at Hixson Funeral Home of Lake Charles, with visitation beginning at 10am. Interment will be at Prien Memorial Park Cemetery under the direction of Pastor John Astling to be attended by family and friends. In lieu of flowers, it was Edna’s request that donations be made to a Christian Church of one’s choice so these offerings of love can be placed in His service as He meets the needs of the needy and lost.
