

She was known lovingly by her family and close friends as our "Queen Elizabeth". She was born in Beaumont, TX and lived in Lake Charles, LA for over 60 years. She was the oldest member of Temple Sinai and served on the Sunshine Committee of Temple Sinai Sisterhood. She was also president of the Money Makers. She and her husband, Al operated Muller's Fine Jewelry by Al Helman for over 20 years. Elizabeth enjoyed her afternoon Mahjong games with the "girls" and spending time with her family, She and Al loved to entertain their many friends. She could walk into a room full of strangers and leave with a lot of new friends.
She was preceded in death by her loving husband of 49 years Alexander Helman, three brothers, Isadore Norman, Max, and Herman Fleckman and one sister Myrtle Altman. Survivors include her son, Michael Helman of Gasport, NY; daughter, Mary “Tootsie” Helman Fournet of Mobile, AL; Grandchildren Wendy Parsons Yates and husband Mark, and Christopher Szell and wife Diane; five great grand children, Chloe Yates, Quinn Yates, Derrek Szell, Darren Szell, and Kaylei Szell.
Her funeral will be 10am Friday, May 6, 2011 at Temple Sinai of Lake Charles. Rabbi Charles Isbell will officiate. Burial will be in Graceland Cemetery. Visitation is from 5pm to 7pm Thursday, May 5, 2011 at Hixson Funeral Home of Lake Charles. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Temple Sinai.
