Agnes Faye Tardy Nutter passed away peacefully on Wednesday morning, October 6, 2021 at the age of 98. She was born on December 5, 1922 in Calliham, TX to Ben E. Tardy and Lula Griffin Tardy. She was married to the love of her life, the late James C. “Jay” Nutter for 58 years. She is survived by her daughter, Andrea Nutter Smith and husband Don, sister-in-law, Shirley Nutter Nichols of Shady Shores, TX, grandson Griffin Barry Smith and wife Loren, Nieces Janet Nutter Jezierski and husband Robert of Spring, TX and Emma Nichols White and husband Jason of Shady Shores, TX and great nieces and nephew Jenna and Jamie Zesierski, and Wallace and Margaret White. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband James C. “Jay” Nutter, and her brothers Elby Tardy, Ben E Tardy, Jr and Bob Skelton. She was raised in Three Rivers, TX. After graduating from Three Rivers High School, she attended business college in San Antonio. Faye was working at Randolph Field where she met Jay, a B-29 flight engineer, at a USO dance. They were married in First Baptist Church of Seattle on April 22, 1944, and were happily married for 58 years until his death in 2002. After the war, Faye worked at the State-Times in Baton Rouge while Jay attended LSU. After his graduation, they moved to Lake Charles. She was working at Lane Wells in Lake Charles when they adopted their daughter, at which point she quit work to become a mom. She was a member of Desk and Derrick, active in Garden Club, the Lake Charles Lioness Club, United Methodist Women and frequently volunteered at her daughter’s schools. She and Jay were active members of Oak Park United Methodist Church for over 50 years. Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend the funeral service at J. E. Hixson and Sons, 3001 Ryan St. in Lake Charles, LA 70601 on Tuesday, October 12, 2021. Visitation will begin at 11:00 a.m. followed by a service at 1:00 p.m. Interment will be at Highland Memory Gardens.
