George (Buddy) W. Minton, Jr., 86, departed this world into the loving arms of Jesus Christ his Savior on March 4, 2017, at a local care center in Lake Charles, after living 10 years with Alzheimer’s. He was born December 12, 1930 in Washington, D.C. to Stanny and George Minton, Sr. and lived most of his life in Lake Charles, LA.
Buddy was a graduate of Lake Charles High School. Upon graduation, he attended McNeese State University and then proudly served in the U.S. Navy as a Construction Electrician in the Seabees stationed in Guam during the Korean Conflict. He then completed his electrician apprenticeship and became an Electrician Journeyman and is a 60 year member of I.B.E.W. Buddy worked construction and after 30 years of service, retired from Bridgestone Firestone in 1985 as an electrician supervisor. He ran hotshots for Acme after retirement and was a “hired hand” at Boyd’s Bits Service to help pass his time. He was a faithful member of Sale Street Baptist Church where he worked tirelessly doing whatever needed to be done, including greeting the children at daycare.
Buddy was a dedicated Christian man, who loved God, his family and his church. He was very devoted to his family working tireless hours to support them. He was very selfless and humble, always doing for others and never wanting any recognition. Many “shut-ins” were visited very faithfully by him. He always found one man’s junk and turned it into another man’s treasure because he could fix anything. You could always catch Buddy whistling or singing because he loved music. Even during his long illness, he never lost his personality and love, always saying “Thank you, Babe” for everything that was done for him.
Preceding him in death were his parents, wife, Virginia and son, Randall Minton.
He is survived by his four children: Lee Minton (Lou), of Cypress, TX, Dwight Minton (Betty), of Lake Charles, Susie Minton Ellender of New Iberia, Marlene Minton Walker (Damon) of Lake Charles and daughter-in-law, Debra Minton of Monroe, 11 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 3 PM on Sunday, March 5, 2017, at Hixson Funeral Home in Lake Charles. Rev. Randy Edwards will officiate. Burial will follow in Highland Memory Gardens. Visitation will be held on Sunday, March 5, 2017 from 12:30 PM until the time of the service. Words of comfort may be shared with the family at www.hixsonfuneralhomes.com
The family would like to thank Brookdale for their loving care, all of his wonderful sitters that treated him like their own family member and Heart of Hospice, Chondrika Holmes who stood by their side. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Sale Street Baptist Church or www.alz.org/join_the_cause_donate.asp
