Gilbert was born October 20, 1925 in Rayne, LA. He was a veteran of the United States Navy. He retired as a supervisor of the Port of Lake Charles in 1990. He enjoyed french music, dancing, gardening and spending time with family and friends.
He is survived by his wife of 11 years, Ethel Conner Moore of Lake Charles; sons, Butch Conner and wife, JoAnn of Grand Chenier, Carrol "Penu" Conner of Iowa, LA; daughters, Debbie Nolan and husband, Joey of Baton Rouge, Linda Saltzman and husband, Ollan of Kinder, Elizabeth "Peanut" Conner Riggs and husband, Danny of Deer Park, TX; sister, Viola Roy of Rayne, LA; 7 grandchildren and 8 great, grandchildren.
His funeral will be 1 p.m. Friday, November 25, 2011 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Rayne. Rev. Bill Ruskoski will officiate. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Visitation will be at Hixson Funeral Home of Lake Charles on Thursday 4-9 p.m. and Friday 8 a.m. til 11:30 a.m. Rosary will be prayed Thursday evening at 6 p.m.
