Jasper "Owen" Jones

Jasper Owen Jones, 85, passed away peacefully at Brookdale Senior Living - Lake Charles on Saturday, June 4, 2016. He was born October 16, 1930 in Kingsville, TX to Elizabeth Williams and Jasper W. Jones. A U.S. Army Korean War veteran Mr. Jones served as an explosive ordinance expert in Korea and Siam. He attended McNeese State College prior to and following his military service and was a drummer in the McNeese Cowboy band.

Mr. Jones retired from Cities Service Inc. in 1988 after 28 years of service. Before joining Cities Service Inc., he worked for his father at Jones Oilfield Service, Inc.

Mr. Jones was a Past Master of Lake Charles Masonic Lodge #165, a 32° Scottish Rite Mason, Valley of Lake Charles, and a member of the Habibi Shrine Flivver Unit. He was also active as a Colonel in the Commemorative Air Force and was a founding member of the CAF’s Explosive Ordinance Detachment.

Mr. Jones is preceded in death by his parents, Jasper and Betty Jones of Lake Charles and his wives, Martha Rogers Jones of DeQuincy and Lorraine Barker Jones of Lake Charles. He is survived by his daughter, Beth Jones Vaudo of Vestavia Hills, AL, her daughters, Kim Vaudo Shipman Kersey and her children, Alex and Jessica Shipman and Stephanie Kersey of Troy, AL and Barbie Vaudo Hutson and her sons, Patrick and Connor of Flowery Branch, GA, son, Dr. J. Rhea Jones Lt Col (Ret) of Hammond, his children, Andrew of Moore, OK and Jeni of Hammond, LA, son, Craig Barker Lt Col (Ret) of Lake Charles, his son, Clayton and his children, Kylie and Corbin of Tucson, AZ, daughters, Barbara Barker and her daughter, Joslyn VanMatre and Allison Barker Book and her children, Maja, Kaden, Nova, Ryver and Phoenix of Aurora, CO and son, SMSgt George Barker III, his daughter, Wendy Barker Coleman and her daughter, Anna of Hammond and son, David Barker and his children, Roston, Zoe, Rhett and Zac of Chesterfield, VA and daughter, Ashley Jernigan of Hammond. He is also survived by a sister, Peggy Lyn Jones Carter, three nephews, a niece and numerous cousins.

Visitation will be Tuesday, June 7, 2016 from 5pm to 9pm at Hixson Funeral Home of Lake Charles with a Masonic service at 7:30pm and will resume on Wednesday from 9am until the service at Hixson Funeral Home. Services will be at 11am. Burial to follow at Highland Memory Gardens. Pallbearers will be David Barker, Alex Shipman, Steve Carter, Kevin Carter, Owen Carter and Ken Vaudo.
