Mrs. Josephine LeJeune passed away peacefully at home surrounded by her family Monday, March 24, 2025, in Lake Charles, Louisiana. Throughout her life Josephine was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend.
A lifelong resident of Lake Charles, she was the daughter of Joseph Peter Consunado and Rose Martha Bruno, born March 13, 1931. She was the wife of the late Vincent LeJeune Sr.
In her younger years she worked at Mueller’s Department store where she met her future husband. One day while on her lunch break Vincent slipped an engagement ring on her f inger. She would often recall that day and say she was almost too excited to go back to work. They were married, March 27, 1948, 63 years at the time of his passing in 2011. Together they raised six children, three boys and three girls. She enjoyed spending time with her children and numerous grandchildren. Astonishingly she remembered everyone’s birthdays and would call with birthday wishes. She loved to cook and would offer something to eat or to make a fresh pot of coffee as soon as anyone entered her kitchen. She was lovingly known as Mama, Mawmaw LeJeune and Sister by friends and family.
She is survived by her six children: Vincent LeJeune Jr. (Linda), Sulphur, LA; Joseph Craig LeJeune (Glenda), Sulphur, LA; Steven Lynn LeJeune, Lake Charles, LA; Sherrie Gail Gremillion (Bobby), Lake Charles, LA; Cynthia Rose Manuel (Peter), DeRidder, LA; Charlotte Jean Guidry, Lake Charles, LA; honorary son Alex Canez, Tucson, AZ; two brothers A. J. Consunado (Rufus), Lake Charles, LA; Michael Consunado, Sulphur, LA; 18 grandchildren, 40 great grandchildren, 4 great-great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Vincent LeJeune Sr.; parents; sister Virginia Annette Prejean-Vidrine; sister-in-law Bernadine Consunado; son-in-law Forrest Lee Guidry Sr.; granddaughter Nicole LeJeune; great-grandson Gavin Lee Guidry.
The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to nurse Vesta Kimbro and granddaughter Hollie Fontenot for their dedicated care.
Visitation will be from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Friday, March 28, 2025, with a Rosary at 6:00 p.m. in The Chapel of Peace at J.E. Hixson Funeral Home, Lake Charles. Visitation will resume at the funeral home at 10 a.m. Saturday, March 29, 2025, until the funeral service at 11:00 a.m. Services will be officiated by Chaplin Cheri Derouen of Harbor Hospice.
Mrs. LeJeune will be laid to rest next to her husband at Consolata Cemetery, Lake Charles, LA.
The family would like to extend an invitation to friends and relatives for food and fellowship at Sherrie and Bobby Gremillion’s home following services.
