Michael Glenn Virgadamo, born on August 14, 1948, passed away on October 27, 2024, at the age of 76. Michael was the beloved son of the late James B. “Jimmy” Virgadamo and June S. "nee Shreve" Virgadamo. Raised in Southwest Louisiana, Michael was a graduate of Lake Charles High School Class of 1966 and went on to earn a B.A. in Mathematics with a minor in Physics from McNeese State University. Later, he returned to McNeese to obtain his teaching certification, launching a career of dedication to education.
Michael served the Calcasieu Parish School Board for 33 years, teaching math and science at Vinton High School from 1972 until his retirement in 2005. As an educator, he inspired countless students, not only in academics but in character, serving as a Beta Club sponsor. After retirement, he continued to share his passion for teaching with brief stints at Sam Houston High and South Cameron High.
A dedicated professional, Michael also worked at Delta Downs Racetrack in various roles, including mutual manager, for over 25 years. In addition to his professional life, he was a proud member of Pi Kappa Phi fraternity.
Michael’s greatest joys were spending time with his family, fishing, and cheering on LSU and McNeese sports.
Those left to cherish his memory include his children, Jennifer Duhon and husband Adam of Lake Arthur, LA, and Patrick Virgadamo of Baton Rouge, LA. He was the adored grandfather of Aubrie B. Duhon, Lily G. Duhon, and Scarlett C. Duhon, and great-grandfather to Kason Adam Duhon, all of Lake Arthur, LA, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his sister, Mary Ann Virgadamo of Palestine, TX; brother, James Virgadamo of Sulphur, LA; and beloved grandchildren, Logan and Brogan Duhon.
The family will welcome the public for visitation at J. E. Hixson & Sons Funeral Home Tuesday, November 5, 2024 from 5pm until 8pm. Visitation will resume Wednesday, November 6, 2024 from 9am until time of Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30am held at St. Henry Catholic Church. Cremation will follow Funeral services.
