She was a native of Reserve, Louisiana and a resident of Lake Charles. Miriam and her late husband, Jim were active members in the VFW and American Legion for many years. They were residents of Barnes Creek, Allen Parish for many years and owners of Oilfield Welding Service in Cameron until retirement. Miriam was a member of St. Theodore Catholic Church.
Survivors include two sons, Ronald Elam and wife Pattie of Sulphur and Billy Elam and wife Emily of Orange, TX; two daughters, Donna Elam and Sue Coleman both of Panama City, FL; one brother, Stafford Braud of Renton, WA; two sisters, Viola Bryson of Baton Rouge and Mattie Elisar of Gonzales; and five grandchildren, Laura Elam Tompkins of Biddeford, ME, Angela Maria Elam of Phoenix, AZ, James Reeder and Laurie Reeder Womble both of Panama City, FL and Kavin Coleman of Lafayette; and two great grandchildren, Madison and Reghan Womble both of Panama City, FL. She was preceded in death by her loving husband, James Conrad Elam; her parents, Oscar and Nora Denuoux Braud; a brother, Ernest Braud; and a sister, Geneva Peters.
Her funeral will be at 1p.m. Saturday, March 29, 2014, in Hixson Funeral Home of Lake Charles. The Rev. Rick McClain will officiate. Burial will be in Kinder McRill Cemetery in Kinder, LA.
