Services will be at 2p.m. Tuesday, May 10, 2016, at University United Methodist Church for Patricia Faye DeWitt, nee Webb, who passed away on May 6, 2016, in Lafayette. Rev. Dr. Doug Ezell will officiate.
A resident of Youngsville for the past four years, she and her husband, Dr. Robert DeWitt, left Louisiana in 1958 and lived in Alabama, the metropolitan D.C. area, and Pennsylvania as Bob, the love of her life, pursued a career as a physicist for the U.S. government while studying and teaching at various institutions wherever they lived. Their life together was the making of a true love story. Starting out with very little and with four young children in tow, they struck out to build a life for their family, embracing each new move with adventure and discovery.
Pat loved cooking for her family and became a self-taught gourmet chef, she impressed her family and guests with many formal meals served on exquisite china and in a variety of courses. She was a gardener par excellence, creating beauty in all the homes in which she lived, but her greatest adventures were spent with Bob traipsing through Europe, especially Scotland, while he was attending and setting up meetings for the government. With a rental car, a picnic basket, and a map in hand, they crisscrossed the countryside enjoying each other’s company and the lovely landscapes.
Pat is survived by her husband of 59 years, Robert, daughter Elizabeth DeWitt and her children, Sara and Samuel Gillis, and Oliver Fields, son Rev. Dr. David DeWitt and wife, Ellen, and their children, Jeanette Dewitt-Kyle and Steven, Katie and Emily DeWitt, daughter Catherine Cecil and husband, James and their children, Laura Gifford and Justin Cecil, daughter Carolyn DeWitt and her children Austin and Ryan Mellon, two great grandchildren, Michael and Madelynn Gifford, sister Sarah Duhon, brother Donald Webb. She also leaves behind many special friends in Altoona, PA, where she was so graciously welcomed into the community and quickly became one of the girls through the Altoona Women’s Club.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Edward and Altha Webb, two brothers, EJ Webb Jr, and Gregory Webb.
Visitation will be at University United Methodist Church on Tuesday May 10, 2016 starting at 9:30am til time of service.
