

Ray was born June 16, 1927 in DeRidder, Louisiana to Roy and Jewell Cooley. Ray served our country in the United States Navy in WWII to include Admiral Byrd’s Operation High Jump in Antarctica. He was a member of The Sanctuary Church of Moss Bluff. He was a hardworking, strong, loving and gentle man. He loved the Lord and his family. He was admired and respected by many for his love and commitment for his wife and our mother, Betty which was observed in much more than marital commitment, his promise and admiration for her strived to continually provide her with happiness and knew if something was important to her, it was important to him. Ray was happily married for 18 years, and during his last days, his only concern was for Betty’s well-being and not his own impending mortality. Ray is preceded in death by his parents, Roy and Jewell Cooley; his adoptive parents, Alfred and Bea Johnson and by his first wife, Delores Cooley. Left to cherish his loving memory is his loving wife, Betty Cooley of Lake Charles; sons, Tommie Ray Cooley of Baytown and Bob Cooley of Lake Charles; step-sons, Randy Williams of Lake Charles and Rick Williams and wife Lydia; grandchildren, Kimberly A. Felder, Brooke Cooley, Mike and Summer Flanders, BJ and Sandy Cooley, Brandt Cooley, Rion and Katie Williams, Wayne Williams and wife Kelly, Shane Williams and wife Jennifer, Christi Nixon and Brandon Hylton and Nicholas Smith; great grandchildren, Trace Locket, Ariel and Morgan Flanders, Keaton Cooley, Gray Conner Williams, Kade Williams, Ethan Williams, Cooper Williams, Carson Williams, Jace Nixon, Conner Nixon and Braxton Hylton.
Visitation will be on Friday, March 24, 2017 from 5pm-7pm and will resume on Saturday from 10am until service time at Hixson Funeral Home of Lake Charles. Funeral services will be on Saturday at 12pm at the funeral home. Burial will be at Lewis Cemetery in DeRidder. Words of comfort may be shared with the family at www.hixsonfuneralhomes.com.
