Following her journey on Earth for 93 years, Ruby Adeline Meaux Davis, beloved mother and grandmother, passed to eternal life at 1:05 p.m. on Oct. 14, 2013. She left to her family a legacy of faith and courage. Her years were long and full of life and spunk from the cradle to the grave
.
Ruby was preceded in death by her husband of 54 years, David Charles "D.C." Davis; her parents, Leon and Marie Boudreaux Meaux; and her only sibling and sister, Marie "Ruth" Tolin.
A native of Vinton, Ruby was born on Sept. 10, 1920, living most of her life in Lake Charles. She and D.C. also resided in San Juan, Puerto Rico, for a short time while he was employed with PPG Chemicals.
She was a graduate of St. Charles Academy and a longtime member of the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception.
Ruby began working in retail sales as a teenager starting out at Kress and Co., then Muller's, and later Riff's -- all in downtown Lake Charles. She was also an Avon sales representative for several years. After her four children were grown, she rejoined the workforce as a sales consultant for Home Interiors and Gifts for a number of years.
Ruby enjoyed entertaining family and friends at her home. Among her many talents were cooking and sewing. She was an excellent seamstress, making both of her daughters' formals and dance costumes. Among her favorite pastimes were dancing with her husband, making memories with her grandchildren, and visiting family and friends.
Ruby's strong will was an inspiration to many who knew her during the nearly 15 years following her stroke. Her devotion to our Blessed Mother and the Rosary helped her through some difficult and challenging years. Even at times, when her body would fail her, she always had hope and determination to regain her independence as much as possible.
Those left to cherish her memory are her children, Raymond C. Davis and wife Mary of Lake Charles; Ginny Fontenot and husband Gilbert of Moss Bluff; Linda Gouldin and husband Gordon of Seabrook, Texas; and David James Davis and wife Patti of Lake Charles; 13 grandchildren, Karen Fontenot Haman, Pamela Fontenot Seal, Beth Davis Mann, Lisa Fontenot Johnson, John Gouldin, Susan Davis Ferraro, Julie Davis, Jennifer Gouldin Bielat, Steven Davis, Elitia Davis Normand, Jeremy Bauer, David James Davis II, and Wade Gouldin; and 20 great-grandchildren.
A Mass of Christian burial will be at 10 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 17, 2013, in the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception. The Rev. Aubrey Guilbeau will officiate. Burial will be in Consolata Cemetery under the direction of Hixson Funeral Home.
Family and friends will gather from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 16, at the funeral home, with a scripture service at 6:30 p.m., followed by a Rosary. Visitation will continue at the Cathedral on Thursday from 9 a.m.until time of services.
Pall bearers are Gilbert Fontenot, Gordon Gouldin, John Gouldin, Wade Gouldin, Steven Davis, David James Davis II and Jeremy Bauer.
The family extends its heartfelt appreciation and gratitude to the staff at Grand Cove Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Dr. Susan Ieyoub, and Heart of Hospice for the compassionate care shown to our precious mother and grandmother
