Sylvia Benoit

Sylvia E. Benoit, 84, died March 26, 2011 in a local care center. Mrs. Benoit was a resident of Creole until 1985 when they moved to the home place in Grand Chenier until Hurricane Rita. After the hurricane they moved to Lacassine and later returned to Creole in 2007. She was an active member of Saint Eugene Catholic Church. Mrs. Benoit was a homemaker and will be greatly missed by her family and friends. She was the last surviving member of Grand Chenier School’s Class of 1943 where she was the Salutatorian.

Mrs. Benoit is survived by her husband George Benoit of 64 years, two sons Raven Benoit and wife Virginia of Creole, and Gary Benoit and wife Becky of Lake Charles, five grandchildren and 7 great grand children and one great great grandchild. She was preceded in death by her son Alvin Glenn Benoit, brother Walter Joseph Dupuis, one grandchild, and one great grandchild.

Funeral Services for Mrs. Benoit will be held on Monday, March 28, 2011, at 3PM in Saint Eugene Catholic Church with burial to follow in the church cemetery. Visitation will be held on March 27, 2011 in the Creole Community Center from 2Pm until 10PM with a rosary to be prayed at 7PM. Visitation will continue on Monday from 8:00AM until time of service.
