My first memory of Viola Mire was as a little girl, and she was the Primary Chorister. I was fascinated by how pretty she was, and especially with that silver streak running through her hair.  I always knew that she was a good mom, and that she didn't put up with foolishness. I'm not sure how I knew that, but I did. To me, her children were all so talented and very cool and I thought the Mires were wealthy because they had a piano.  As an adult, I admired Viola's pretty alto voice.  Later, my husband  and I would often go eat at Jean Lafitte in Lake Charles when she worked there as Hostess. It was a posh restaurant with wonderful food and Viola handled her duties gracefully. It was clear that the owner considered her his closest and most trusted staff member. To all her children, grandchildren, great grands and even the babies - the great great grands who do not yet know her name - I know you all are blessed every day by the good things she taught and by her example.

Johnice and family, I am so very sorry to hear about your mom's passing!  She was so sweet and I loved working with her.  May God ease the pain, as only He can, and continue to bless your family.

Mawmaw Mire has been a highlight to every family gathering my whole life. She always greets us with smiles, hugs, and usually a creative gift of some kind. She has been a foundation of service to the lord for our family and an example to all. She was labeled the fun grandma, the funny grandma, and at times, the strict grandma. She was never afraid to speak her mind or correct me when I needed it. Im a better son, brother, and father because of her. My great grandma is one of a kind and I will miss her dearly. All my memories of mawmaw bring me smiles and laughter. Till' we meet again at Jesus feet. Love you!

I'm so sorry for the loss of Aunt Viola. To Johnice, Troy, Brenda and Renée and the rest of the family my thoughts and prayers are with all of you at this sad and yet joyous time. I always had a good relationship with her and remember some of  scoldings she gave me from time to time. One of the neatest stories I can tell was my mother reacting to the wedding shower Aunt Viola gave to Sondra. When she got home from the shower, mom said that Sondra's mom had a big family. I asked what do you mean? To which she replied all the sisters were there and there were a bunch of them. Of course we laughed and told her that in the church women referred to each other as "sister this and sister that." Had Viola not given the shower, I would have never had such a belly laugh like that one due to my mother. Thanks, Aunt Viola! Give a hug and a kiss to Sondra and the rest of the family from all of us. I loved you!

I wonder if she will need a pot of rice in Heaven?

Viola is survived by her five children, Johnice Young and husband Kent of Sulphur, LA; Jeffrey Mire and wife LaDale of Kingsland, TX; Brenda Hansen and husband Greg of Wayne, PA; Troy Mire and wife Cheryle of Las Vegas, NV; Renee Pickett and husband David of Napa, CA. She has sixteen grandchildren, thirty two great grandchildren and five great-great grandchildren. 

She is preceded in death by her parents and all ten of her brothers and sisters.
