

He was born August 30, 1929 in Merryville, LA to Elice and Pearl (Lott) Cantrell. He married Betty Ann Shirley December 24, 1953 and she preceded him in death in 1991. He later married Renee Worthington December 3, 1994. He was preceded in death by his parents, one son Kenneth Smith and two brothers, Sylvester and Jack Cantrell.
William served in the U.S. Army and was honorably discharged in 1953. He worked as a fuel truck driver for Texaco for many years before retiring. He was a member of East Ridge Baptist Church and served as a deacon for over 50 years.
Survivors are his wife, Renee Cantrell of Lake Charles; one daughter Patricia (Richard) Johnston of DeRidder, LA; one step-son, Geoffrey (Amanda) Worthington of LeBleu Settlement; one-step daughter, Kailea Worthington of Lake Charles; five grandchildren, Will Cantrell Johnston, Kyle Eglin Johnston, Calin Dupuis, Tristan and Greyson Worthington, one brother, Virgil (Claudette) Cantrell of DeRidder; and two sisters, Bobbie Johnston of DeRidder and Geneva Richards of Bono, AR.
A visitation will be Tuesday, April 8, 2014 from 5:00 pm to 9:00 pm at Hixson Funeral Home in Lake Charles. A service will be Wednesday, April 9, 2014 at 11:00 am with visitation from 9:00am until service at the funeral home. The Rev. Alan Weishampel will officiate. Burial will follow at Old Ritchie Cemetery in Moss Bluff.
